LED strip lights are usually referred to as LED flexible strips, which consist of a power chord and an LED strip with adhesive on the back.

They are very easy to install in all kinds of housings that have walls or roofs available, even in places where no light source has previously existed.

You can then hook up your led strip light to a 12 volt power supply, which can be a wall outlet in your room or an external battery with a battery box.

Besen’s led strip lights usually come in one metre sections of 30 LED’s per metre and the length of each section of strip is not up to you but by how many metres you purchase.

Know about LED Rope Light:

LED Rope light is more of a linear accent lighting strip that comes in 10 meter rolls and each roll has 300 individual low powered LED’s in it.

They are very simple to install, you just unroll the LED rope light and either staple or glue each edge to your house/wall/deck/column, etc… anywhere where they will be hidden behind crown moldings or baseboards.

One roll of LED Rope Light usually comes with one power supply that is plugged into the end of the rope light roll.

Now let’s talk about differences

What is the difference between LED Strip light & LED Rope light?

LED lights are becoming more and more popular every day. There are many different types of LED lights, including LED strip lights and LED rope lights. Both LED strip lights and LED rope lights have their pros and cons, so it can be difficult to decide which type of LED light is best for you.

Let’s look at their differences:

Lighting Source:

Rope LED lights are individual lights that form a long strip. These individual lights are powered within the rope from end to end, which means that LED rope light can be cut every few inches without affecting the performance of the entire length of the rope. Therefore, if you need a short piece of LED light or if you want to join two pieces.

Rope lights with SMD LEDs, DIP LEDs, and even incandescent bulbs produce stunning effects.

The majority of SMD LED lights are used for LED strip light. They may be utilized with a wide range of SMD LEDs.

On the other hand COB also used on some LED lights. There are some difference between COB & SMD lights.

IP Rating:

IP ratings can be crucial when you consider where to place your LED lights. Look for an IP (Ingress Protection) rating of at least IP65 if the light is going to be installed in a damp location such as a shower, or in a wet area such as a bathroom.

Strip lights are available in a variety of IP ratings, so they can be used in locations where water might get into them, such as bathrooms, pools, kitchens, and gardens.

LED rope lights are weatherproof & generally come with an IP65 protection rating, making them resistant to water splash.

Color:

LED Strip lights are available in a wide range of colors. Choose from red, blue, green, yellow, orange and white among other colors.  You can even get multicolor LED strips, which allows you to change the colors on your flexible strip.

Rope lights only come in cool color tones that include aqua blue, purple or pink. You also have the option to create custom colors (RGB) by mixing different colored LEDs together.

Input Voltage:

The more wattage, the brighter the light. LED rope lights are available in a range of wattages and voltages, but they’re all AC220V. It also includes DC12V and DC24V, albeit in lesser quantities.

LED strip lights usually come in a variety of input voltages, which make them ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications. Most of the time, DC12V or DC24V is used in LED strip lights. It also includes AC220V and AC110V. This is employed in a variety of settings.

Size:

LED strip lights and LED rope lights can be cut to fit your requirements, but you will need to use sharp cable cutters. Otherwise, the wires within the LEDs can fray or break.

Rope Lights are very easy to install as they come in a 10 meter continuous roll that is 300 individual low powered LED’s in it. The length of each roll of LED rope light is not up to you but by how many meters you purchase.

Brightness:

In LED strip lights, the more LEDs there are in a row, the brighter it will be. The brightness of an individual LED is not very strong and you may need 100 or more for a bright shine. Strip lights that are built with 5050 chips will produce brighter light than those constructed with 3528 chips.

Rope lights have equal brightness along their entire length due to the fact they’re just one long light source.  Rope lights LED low lighting  is less bright as compared to LED strip lights because instead of one chip, it has a string of many small chips all connected together. Since it’s just a single light source, the brightness is uniform throughout the entire length of the strip.

You must compare CRI, brightness, CCT, packing, and so on when selecting a rope light or a strip light.

Flexibility:

LED strip lights are much more flexible than LED rope lights. Due to their design, they can be cut into smaller lengths or bent around corners. This is because LED strip lights come with an adhesive side that you can stick onto the back of any surface including wallpapers, cabinets, furniture and so on.

Rope lights are only flexible when you opt for a bendable rope. You can join two or more of these ropes together to form a single long light source. Otherwise, individual bits of LED strip lights are not flexible at all.

Durability:

LED strip lights have a very long lifespan due to the absence of any filaments like in an incandescent bulb. This makes LED strip lights a cost-effective lighting solution that can last for 50,000 hours or more with minimal maintenance.

LED rope lights have an excellent resistance to most chemicals and moisture. They’re usually used outdoors as they don’t corrode easily due to exposure from the sun, wind and rain. Rope lights are also quite durable with most units lasting for 50,000 hours.

Functionality:

LED strip lights are more popular than LED rope lights due to their various lighting applications. You can install them under cabinets or cupboards, on furniture, walls and so on to create indirect lighting that illuminates the entire room.

If you require flexible lighting solutions for outdoors like backyard lighting or pool lighting, LED rope lights are the best for this purpose.

Power Consumption:

LED strip lights are more power efficient than LED rope lights. This is because there are many LEDs packed into a small strip or tape, so it requires less energy to produce the same amount of light.

Rope lights have a lower wattage requirement due to their long design. They also consume less electricity when compared to other indoor lighting solutions.

Rope lights with PVC coated wire use about 5 watts per meter.

LED light strips with an LED color temperature of 5,000-6500K consume between 1 and 30 watts per meter. It is dependent on the demands of your project.

Strip Lights vs Rope Lights: Which one is better?

Due to their differing characteristics, both types of lighting have various applications. There’s no standard rule that states which one is superior. You just need to consider your requirements prior to making a purchase decision.
